Interaction Design
Conductor of Eras
Conductor of Eras is an interactive exhibition that explores the evolution of Western music through six major epochs: Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern.
The installation features two wooden rings mounted on a wall, enhanced with projection and interactive controls via P5.js. Visitors can select an epoch to hear a representative piece of music, using pre-existing MIDI files that have been remixed in GarageBand with era-specific instruments. Each epoch is accompanied by symbolic icons and visuals.
When an epoch is selected, a glow highlights the area and the base version of the music begins to play. By pressing different instrument 3D objects, visitors can hear the piece rearranged with alternative instrumentation, allowing playful exploration of how sound changes across timbres.
